KINGSTON — Attorney Allan M. Kluger will be the Friedman JCC’s honoree for the Tribute 2020 Gala on Sunday, Sept. 13, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Event co-chairs Taly Kornfeld and Karen Blum made the announcement on behalf of Gary Bernstein, Chief Executive Officer of the Friedman Jewish Community Center.

“The Friedman JCC has and continues to have a significant role in helping and providing for our entire NEPA community,” Bernstein said. “This fundraising event will lessen the impact of COVID-19 on our mission of raising money for our wonderful JCC programs services and helping serve those families and individuals in our community that are most in need.”

Barbara Sugarman, longtime JCC staff member, added, “With respect to adhering to CDC enforced guidelines, the Tribute Gala will be a socially distanced cocktail party at the JCC and will be catered by The Woodlands and will include hors d’oeuvres, desserts, coffee, and open bar, with an outstanding recognition of Allan Kluger honoring his tireless service to our JCC.”

Kluger is the current and senior member of the law firm Hourigan, Kluger and Quinn in Kingston. He also served as a member of the Wyoming Valley Airport Authority, AAA Mid-Atlantic Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry. He remains active with the JCC, King’s College,Temple Israel and several other organizations.

“Allan is a true asset to the community, and to the Friedman Jewish Community Center is a beneficiary of his generosity, particularly due to his caring, active and strong leadership,” Bernstein said.

Bernstein said Kluger is the first recipient of the Tribute Gala Award, making it “truly significant and special.” Bernstein noted that Kluger has always been passionate about his work, usually arriving at the office at 4:30 a.m. He said Kluger jokes that he “flunked the course in sleeping.”

Bernstein said the Friedman JCC remains committed to serving its families and participants as it navigates through these unprecedented times.

“Every dollar raised allows us to support unforeseen expenses to help serve our community members in need through these challenging times,” Bernstein said. “Sponsorships and a virtual ad journal will be broadcast throughout the evening and will be replicated on the JCC website and Face Book pages.”

With respect to adhering to CDC-enforced guidelines, the Kluger Tribute Gala will be a one and a half hour socially-distanced cocktail party and masks will be encouraged, if not mandatory at that time, when guests are not eating or drinking.

“Now more than ever, we are asking for you to support the Friedman JCC,” Bernstein said. “He sets the bar high and serves as a great role model to others.
