DALLAS TWP. — Building some serious energy efficiency into the newly expanded science center paid off big for Misericordia University on Monday when UGI stopped by to present a check for the improvements made to the facility during renovations.
“UGI is pleased to provide this check to Misericordia University,” UGI vice president of market and customer relations Robert Stoyko said in a media release. “Installation of innovative energy efficiency technology at education facilities allows institutions to reduce operating costs while improving the environment by reducing their carbon footprint.
Representatives from UGI presented an oversized check to college administrators outside the new main entrance, which opens to a large atrium connecting the new, nearly finished wing with the existing wing, now being refurbished.
Through windows a life-size skeleton still covered in clear plastic could be seen, as well as large, flat-screen TVs mounted on walls still covered with cardboard. Once the check was presented, several of those present got a quick tour of the room responsible for the check.
The compact Crest condensing boilers are 98% efficient as they heat air that’s blown through the building with variable-speed fans that can send as much or as little heat needed. The building’s insulation has also been upgraded. The center overall will meet LEED (Leaderships in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver efficiency standards.
The rebate check is a part of UGI’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation program, designed to encourage lower energy usage and overall costs for customers. More information is available at ugi.com/savesmart
