The Wyoming Valley West School District is switching to all-virtual instruction for the next to weeks after “a number of positive cases” of COVID-19 were discovered over the weekend, according to Superintendent David Tosh.

Tosh made the announcement in a robocall sent out Sunday.

In the call Tosh said a decision will be made on Nov. 6 whether or not to switch back to in-person classes or to continue with online classes.

In addition to the confirmed cases, Tosh said there are also a number of individuals who were in close contact with those that tested positive and are now in quarantine. He also said that the fact that Luzerne County is switching from a moderate case spread to a substantial case spread contributed to the decision.

The online classes will begin Monday for all students in the district.
