WILKES-BARRE — Wilkes University President Greg Cant in a statement released Thursday encouraged members of his campus’ community to reflect on the chaos in Washington by remembering that “we are best served by focusing on the core principles that bind us together.”

“It is my hope that, despite the scenes that played out before us, you take comfort that the democratic process prevailed. The Senate and the House reconvened in the late hours and worked overnight to certify the results of our presidential election – the most cherished of American processes,” Cant said.

“All our voices deserve to be heard, and as an educational institution, we celebrate the importance of the First Amendment. However, we must all adhere to the rule of law and express our differences peacefully and without malintent,” he continued.

“Much time will be spent assigning fault and blame to those involved in yesterday’s incident and the ways in which it was handled. It is my profound belief that in moments of crisis, we are best served by focusing on the core principles that bind us together,” Cant added.
