WILKES-BARRE — City police continue to investigate shots fired tonight on Holland Street and have taken two people into custody in handcuffs.

Luzerne County 911 received a report of multiple shots fired at about 7:45 p.m. in the area of 129 Holland St.

No less than 19 shell casings were strewn near the intersection of Holland and Collins streets, and police personnel marked, examined and then removed them as evidence.

At least eight police officers examined the scene, inspecting the exteriors of houses lining the street. They was seen to examine a black item of clothing on the sidewalk near the casings.

There were no reports of injury and no medical personnel were at the scene.

Two vehicles seemed have been damaged in the gunfire: a dark blue SUV which was towed from the scene and a red Toyota Corolla which a police officer said would not be taken into evidence.

The SUV back side window was shattered with damage consistent with that of gunfire.

The red Toyota’s rear windshield was completely shattered.

Residents said that in the neighborhood they described as “usually quiet,” the shots were much too close for comfort.

Police officers at the scene declined to comment.

Police cleared the scene by 9:15 p.m.
