Brynn plans to hold her 11-year birthday party at the salon during an April 19 fundraiser for Jennifer Mecca Dolphin, who is in need of a liver transplant. Instead of birthday presents for Brynn, her guests are asked to make donations to the cause.

SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. — This year’s birthday party for Brynn Wolter, of North Abington Township, will be unlike any she’s had in the past.

More meaningful, perhaps.

The soon to be 11-year-old will celebrate her special day with friends as usual, but instead of the customary birthday presents, she is asks guests to bring donations for the Help Jenn “Live-r” Longer Fund, benefiting Jennifer Mecca Dolphin, 34, of Scranton, who is in need of a liver transplant.

Brynn and her birthday guests will join other community members at Pizazz Salon, 661 Northern Blvd., South Abington Township, for the Nail Cut-A-Thon. Hosted by salon co-owners Laura Keogh and Cristina McLaughlin, the event will run from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 12, with both walk-ins and appointments accepted throughout the day. Prices for services range from $15 to $30 and all proceeds benefit Dolphin’s medical fund.

Although Dolphin is a stranger to Brynn, the cause is one that is close to the young girl’s heart.

Her mother, Kira Wolter, has sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease which shuts down the body’s organs.

“My mom has a rare disease,” Brynn said. “I didn’t want any presents, so I just wanted to help her (Dolphin).”

Kira Wolter explained she heard about the fundraiser through the social media website Facebook, on which she “liked” the salon’s page.

“She (Dolphin) has a little girl at home, and it just really tugged at my heart, and when I explained it to Brynn, it tugged at her heart as well,” she said.

Dolphin’s daughter Mackenzie is 3 years old.

It was when she was pregnant with Mackenzie that Dolphin’s medical journey began.

“Healthy prior to difficult labor and being diagnosed with two rare liver diseases, now, at 34, Jenn is in need of a (liver) transplant to save her life,” reads a short description on the Help Jenn “Live-r” Longer Facebook page. More details about her medical journey and the family’s needs are available at tlgets.me/gy8.

Those who wish to help but are unable to attend the fundraising event at Pizazz Salon may do so by mailing donations, payable to Help Jenn Live-r Longer Fund, to C/O Fidelity Deposit and Discount Bank, Blakely and Drinker St., Dunmore, PA, 18512.
