Edwards

WILKES-BARRE — A motion in Luzerne County Court indicates homicide suspect Amir Edwards has entered into plea negotiations with state prosecutors.

The document requested the delay of a jury trial Tuesday on a separate criminal case in light of the plea discussions. It does not rule out taking the homicide allegations to trial.

Judge Michael T. Vough granted the motion in an order Tuesday morning.

Prosecutors say Edwards fatally stabbed Zachary John Richards in September.

According to court documents, Edwards is set face the homicide charge at trial June 15.

The state Office of Attorney General is handling the prosecution as Richards was the brother of Luzerne County Assistant District Attorney Justin Richards.
