LA PLUME — Tickets to a Yankees game. A handmade walking stick. A handmade dollhouse. These are some of the things that will be auctioned off on Saturday, April 18 when Keystone College hosts the Factoryville Playground Taskforce’s second annual auction inside Evans Hall.
Auctioned items will be donated by local organizations and individuals from the community. The Trail Rotary Club will donate a basket. Items from individuals will include four Delta Box seats tickets to the New York Yankees (worth $1,000), two tickets to Froggy Fest at the Pavilion on Montage Mountain on May 29, a $50 gift certificate to Lakeland Golf Course in Fleetville, movie tickets, artwork, a handmade walking stick, a handmade dollhouse, a scooter and a balance bike.
“We’re trying to think outside the box and think of different things to auction off,” said Sadie Rozenburg, president of the taskforce and grant writer of Factoryville.
Rivenburg’s Auction Gallery will donate its auctioning services. Sodexo Dining Services from Keystone College will provide food and drinks.
The Factoryville Playground Taskforce was founded a few years ago when it worked with Kaboom!, a national non-profit organization which encourages municipalities to get all childen to play outside. Kaboom! gives grants to municipalities to help purchase playground equipment.
“We (the taskforce) found this non-profit (Kaboom!), and read a lof of their literature,” said Rozenburg. “One of the things that they recommend is that we start a playground taskforce, which our motto is ‘Strengthening Our Community Through Play.’”
The Factoryville Playground Taskforce organizes fundraisers to raise money for playgrounds and community events to get children to play and have fun. The taskforce organized volunteers to build a playground at the Joint Municipal Park in Factoryville. It also works with the non-profit organization H.A.N.D.S. (Helping Area Needs for Diverse Early Care and Education Services) by supporting them as a fiscal agent and referral source.
The taskforce will hold the auction to raise money for summer renovations for both the Joint Municipal Park and the Christy Mathewson Park. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the bidding begins at 7:30 p.m.
“It is a really fun event,” said Rozenburg. “We had a blast last year, and that’s why we’re doing it again.”
