MOUNTAIN TOP — Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club this month became the first facility in Northeastern Pennsylvania to earn the “Rolling Out the Green Carpet” certification from the National Women’s Golf Alliance.

The NWGA certification is given to a golf facility based on standards and practices aimed to enhance the golfing experience for female players. The certification was developed to measure a golf facility’s best practices and generate revenue by attracting female golfers.

Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club was evaluated by NWGA in five areas that include Course Playability, Customer Service, Golf Course Amenities, Facility Amenities and Golf Programs.

The facility received “three-plus stars in Course Playability, Customer Service, Golf Course Amenities and half stars in other criteria categories,” according to a press release.

“Course ratings for women from multiple sets of markers, yardages and tee locations allowed women an opportunity to have more fun – earning Blue Ridge Trail a rare star for Course Playability,” Jan Bel Jan, founding partner of NWGA and owner of Jan Bel Jan Golf Course Design, said in a written statement. “Course playability is a critical element in our evaluation process, and we are encouraging more courses to consider how they can set up their facilities to enhance the playing experience for women and all golfers.”

Ault, Clark and Associates designed Blue Ridge Trail golf course. They also designed golf courses for Toft-Trees Golf Club in State College, and The Woods at Kingsmill in Williamsburg, Virginia.

“We greatly value our women customers,” Tony Barletta, general manager of Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club said in a written press release. “We are proud to earn the NWGA certification that shows our dedication to Rolling out the Green Carpet.”

The NWGA is a golf alliance comprised of Golf for Cause LLC, Jan Bel Jan Golf Course Design and the Executive Women’s Golf Association.

Recently, Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club received 4.5 stars from Golfadvisor.com. Blue Ridge, located at 260 Country Club Drive, Mountain Top, is a 27-hole championship course.
