WILKES-BARRE — City police arrested Alshanti Ewings, 40, of Wood Street, Wilkes-Barre, on charges he assaulted a woman who would not allow him to smoke or drink inside the residence on Saturday.

The woman told police she arrived home with her 12-year-old daughter who was treated at Hershey Medical Center for asthma. Due to the daughter’s medical condition, the woman would not allow Ewing to smoke or drink inside the residence.

Ewing called 911 during an argument with the woman. After police left the residence, Ewing became enraged and struck the woman in the face, according to the criminal complaint.

Ewing was charged with simple assault and harassment. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.
