PITTSTON – WVIA’s 29th season of “Call the Doctor” begins in mid-October and will be hosted by award-winning journalist Paola Giangiacomo.

“We are excited to have an experienced and award-winning journalist such as Paola joining our team.,” said Tom Currá, WVIA President/CEO and Executive Producer.

Giangiacomo is a multiple award-winning journalist and 20-year veteran of broadcast journalism. Her professional career began at KMCT in Monroe, La., where she became a weeknight anchor. She later moved to anchor/reporter positions at WBKB in Alpena, Michigan, WWCP/WATM in Johnstown, Pa. and then on to WNEP in Moosic, where she reported, anchored and produced for nearly 13 years. Giangiacomo, who holds a B.A. in Broadcast/Cable Communications from Penn State University, resides in northeastern Pennsylvania with her husband and two sons.

The new season of “Call the Doctor” will kick off with two episodes in the month of October. The first episode, “Breast Cancer: Knowledge is Power,” will premiere at 7 p.m. October 19, and the second, “Opioid Addiction: Overdose Epidemic,” will premiere at 7 p.m. October 26.

“Call the Doctor” focuses on addressing the critical health and wellness needs of northeastern Pennsylvania and the central Susquehanna Valley with a panel of regional experts.
