LEHMAN TWP. — A brush fire on Metropolitan Avenue on Wednesday destroyed a shed and caused significant damage to an adjacent residence.

About a dozen firefighters from Sweet Valley, Harveys Lake, Jackson Township, Lehman Township and Ide Town fire departments responded to the fire which was called in at about 2 p.m.

According to Lake Silkworth Fire Chief Jerry Walker, no one was injured in the fire.

Walker said the first priority of fire personnel on scene was to ensure that the fire did not spread to any other structures and that no residents were endangered.

He said it had been “knocked down,” aggressively from several directions

As of 3:30 p.m., Walker said the fire had been almost entirely contained, with remaining “hot spots” being doused with water.

Although “brush fire season” is over, Walker said brush fires can be started during any season and encouraged residents to remain vigilant in regard to fire safety.
