NUANGOLA — Borough council this week approved consolidating four lots into just one tract of land at Nuangola Road and Gay Avenue.

Owner Charles Race, of Pottsville, requested the move to reduce his real estate taxes, officials said.

Jack Varlay, planning consultant, and the borough’s planning commission recommended approving Race’s request. The vote of the four council members present was unanimous.

There was one stipulation, however. Race will have to sustain wetlands that are prevalent on a section of the property.

While discussing zoning, council also received a report that legal action has been initiated against the owners of property on Gay Avenue and at 50 Ridge St. for alleged maintenance issues. In fact, the borough’s zoning officer has issued a demolition permit for a structure at 50 Ridge Ave.

In other matters:

• Council agreed to pay sewage system fees for organizations such as the Grove Association, the fire department and the chapel building with borough funds.

• Council President Joe Tucker reported that an agreement with the Wexcon Company to compensate the borough $15,000 for road repairs has been delayed because of issues raised by Wexcon.

• At his request, Councilman Michael Johnson, who also serves as chairman of the sewer authority, was appointed to a vacant post on the planning commission.
