Republican Harry Haas has announced he is seeking another term on Luzerne County Council.

The 41-year-old Kingston resident has a bachelor’s degree in history and master’s degree in education from The George Washington University. He teaches history at the Dallas Middle School and was elected twice to serve on the council since the customized home rule government structure took effect in January 2012.

As a council member, Haas said he helped to oversee a successful transition to home rule, pay down 25 percent of the county’s debt, reduce the county workforce by 15 percent, implement an ordinance and committee targeting blight and treated county staff, council colleagues and citizens “with respect,” his announcement said.

His stated goals for another term include lobbying against state mandates that “unfairly” pass down costs to county taxpayers, steering the new blight initiative, searching for cost savings, challenging unjustified new positions and continuing to “bring decency and respect to county government.”

He and his wife, Kristin, have a daughter, Kensie. His campaign website is www.HarryHaas.com, and his Facebook page is “Haas for Luzerne County Council.”
