SCRANTON — Two Luzerne County men have been indicted by a federal grand jury on bank robbery charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced Wednesday that Doug Sickler, 36, and Shawn Cavanaugh, 35, were indicted on the charges Tuesday.

Sickler and Cavanaugh are accused of the armed robbery of the PNC Bank in Avoca on June 21, U.S. Attorney Bruce Brandler said in a news release. Sickler and Cavanaugh allegedly got away with more than $2,000.

The charges stem from a joint investigation between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania State Police, and police departments from Wilkes-Barre and Kingston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan Gotlob is prosecuting the case.

This case was brought as part of the Violent Crime Reduction Partnership (VCRP), a districtwide initiative to combat the spread of violent crime in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Led by the United States Attorney’s Office, VCRP consists of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies whose mission is to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who commit violent crimes with firearms.
