WILKES-BARRE — A local doctor and patient will be highlighted on a CNN-produced program for a baffling medical mystery.

Dr. Mitchell Gross, a neurologist from Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, and his patient Emily Gavigan, of Scranton, will have their case discussed on CNN’s medical mystery show “Something’s Killing Me,” according to a news release from the hospital.

The episode, titled “Into Madness,” will air on CNN’s sister network, HLN, at 9 p.m. Sunday.

The episode tells the story of Gavigan coming to the emergency room at Geisinger Wyoming Valley with unexplainable medical symptoms.

Emily’s father found an article describing an illness that he suspected she was enduring. He showed it to Gross, and it helped Gross correctly diagnose Emily.

A crew from CNN traveled to the hospital in March, conducting interviews with Gross and filming segments in the hospital.
