KINGSTON — In response to the growing drug abuse crisis, the Wyoming Valley West School District has set up an Opioid Awareness Night at the middle school on Chester Street in Kingston.

The event starts at 7 p.m. Thursday and will feature Master Sargent Brandon Staudt from the Northeast Counterdrug Joint Task Force in Fort Indiantown Gap. Staudt made a presentation on the same topic to the district faculty during an in-service session Aug. 28.

The presentation should last about an hour and is open to the public free of charge. The district encourages parents, students, law enforcement and members of the community to attend.

This special Pennsylvania National Guard counterdrug unit uses National Guard resources to help create opportunities for young people to commit to a drug-free life.
