WILKES-BARRE — A doughnut shop on Hazle Street was robbed Thursday, the third such incident in the city in as many days.

Police are now trying to determine if at least two of the heists could have been pulled off by the same person.

Officers responded to the Curry Donuts at 487 Hazle St. early Thursday afternoon.

Regina Southare, 28, of Wilkes-Barre, was working the counter when a man came in, asked for a doughnut, then asked for all the money in the cash register’s drawer.

“He said he had something in his pocket, and he was reaching for it,” Southare said, but she did not actually see a weapon.

Southare added that the suspect also identified himself as a heroin addict.

The man got away with about $100.

“I told him to have a blessed day,” Southare recalled.

She described the robber as a scrawny white man in his late 20s to 30s, wearing a reddish, orange hoodie.

Further information is pending a press release from Wilkes-Barre Police, but officers on scene did say they were working to determine if the suspect was the same individual who robbed a nearby deli Wednesday.

A male with a similar description robbed Peter’s Ice Cream and Deli at 159 Blackman St., fleeing on foot with about $300.

Meanwhile, a third robbery occurred at U.S. Gas on Butler Street and North Pennsylvania Avenue just before 10 Halloween night.

In that incident, two suspects came into the store brandishing handguns. Bandannas covered their faces and they were also wearing hoods.

They got away with cash and cartons of cigarettes totaling about $400 in value before fleeing on foot.

So far, no one has been apprehended in any of the thefts.
