WILKES-BARRE — A child reportedly fell down an elevator shaft Tuesday evening at Luzerne County Community College’s downtown Corporate Learning Center.
The victim was a 5-year-old boy who fell “approximately two stories” in the building at 2 Public Square, according to a post on the Wilkes-Barre City Firefighters IAFF Local 104’s Facebook page.
The child was rescued from the elevator pit in the basement, according to the post, and then taken away in an ambulance.
A second ambulance was called for a man who was injured while trying to reach the boy, the post stated. He was also taken to a trauma center.
The mishap occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Damian Lendacky confirmed there was an incident involving two individuals and an elevator. He said he could not release any further details at the scene because the matter was still under investigation.
