As snow falls in the Wyoming Valley on Super Bowl Sunday, area residents should expect more of the same through Sunday night and into early Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, N.Y., a winter weather advisory will remain in effect for Luzerne, Lackawanna and Wayne countries until 1 a.m. Monday. The storm is expected to drop between 1 and 3 inches of snow in the valleys and as much as 6 inches in the higher elevations.

Due to the severity of the storm, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has temporarily reduced the speed limit on several roadways in the region.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

• Interstate 80

• Interstate 81

• Interstate 84

• Interstate 380

The heaviest snow is expected to stop by early evening. However, the snow could change to rain and freezing rain as the day goes on, according to the weather service.
