Cops: Man rammed

vehicle into gas meter

WILKES-BARREIsaiah Elam, 28, allegedly rammed his vehicle into the gas meter at his residence on North Empire Street just before 11 p.m. Friday.

Elam was charged with risking a catastrophe and sent to the county lockup.

The victim is listed as a 34-year-old woman.

WILKES-BARRE — A 23-year-old Hispanic woman told police she was walking on North Street when she was grabbed by two unknown men who sexually assaulted and raped her.

The incident was reported Friday.

The suspects involved are described only as a black man and a Hispanic man.

Officers released no further information except to say that an investigation continues.

Drunkenness alleged

WILKES-BARRE — An intoxicated man shouted at officers before he was taken into custody for public drunkenness, police report.

Richard Prettyman, 69, of High Street, Wilkes-Barre, was allegedly uncooperative with police when they arrived at a North Pennsylvania Avenue business Saturday afternoon for a report of a disorderly male.

Prettyman slurred his speech, was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol, officers said.

He refused to call someone to give him a ride, so officers took him into custody.

Police: Man had needles

WILKES-BARRE — Several hypodermic needles were found on a city man who told medics he had used heroin and Xanax, police say.

Kenneth Monroe, 25, of Hillard Street, was arrested just after 11 a.m. Saturday when officers responded to a report of a man on Public Square who appeared to be under the influence, according to authorities.

Monroe was charged with drunkenness and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was lodged in a cell until sober.
