Concerning columnist Steve Corbett’s commentary regarding Father Leo McKernan and the recent happenings at a CCD class for sixth-graders, I watched the movie shown to the children.
I was expecting really gruesome stuff, but saw only blood on the doctor’s gloves. Yes, it was scary. But I think sixth-graders see worse stuff than that on cellphones, computers and TV at this point!
One thing I have to admit: The part where the little girl was talking to her mom made me very sad. But that’s the reality of abortion. Being post-abortive myself, I could see how it would affect women and men who are suffering after an abortion and have not been healed with God’s mercy yet. Or even children in a family who could be suffering from survival guilt because they are alive and not their siblings.
There are places for people to turn to get help: RachelsVineyard.org, for mothers and fathers, and PostAbortionHelp.org, for siblings.
I believe both parents and children need to learn more about Jesus and the church. That’s why so many people think abortion is OK. So much rhetoric, not enough truth! Too much culture in the churches and not enough churches in the culture.
Christ came to transform our hearts to love and mercy. Forgiveness and mercy are always in season.
