In the aftermath of the fire at the Genetti Hotel Complex apartments, which displaced nearly 125 people and tragically took the life of one person, I want to publicly thank those who assisting in combating this tragic incident.
Without the diligent, brave, and professional response from all involved, this tragedy could have been much greater. This is another example of why I am convinced the City of Wilkes-Barre and its residents are served by the finest Police and Fire Departments in the State of Pennsylvania.
The Wilkes-Barre Police and Fire Departments were able to successfully evacuate multiple people from the complex, four of whom had to be evacuated by a Fire Department ladder truck. Both the State Police Fire Marshall and the American Red Cross were called to the scene for assistance. Numerous community leaders and organizations have made commitments to assist those displaced by the fire.
As devastating as this misfortune has been for the residents of the apartments, the response and preventative actions of our first responders is a reminder of the strength and compassion of our community.
