The Wilkes- Barre Crime Watch would like to suggest residents follow these simple steps, so if they should become a burglary victim, they would be able to quickly describe their stolen property.

The program is called Operation I.D.

Make a list of all serial numbers on valuables and electronics. Mark property or valuables with an identifying mark, preferably your driver’s license number with state abbreviation. The items can then be traced to the rightful owner with relative ease.

If the burglar is caught with marked property, it is solid evidence of possession of stolen goods. Of course, some items cannot be marked, and we suggest a photograph or video of these items. After marking your property and recording the serial numbers, make a list of your valuables and keep a copy of the list in a safe place.

Wilkes-Barre Community Policing Officer Robert Collins will be presenting this program at all Crime Watch meetings throughout the city in September.
