Your view: Support the Humane Cosmetics Act

Many people are surprised to learn that animals are still used to test ingredients in makeup, personal care and everyday household products. However, surveys show that when properly informed about animal suffering, consumers will choose to go cruelty-free. Brands that do or don’t test can be found on

After all, animals have emotions and possess unique intelligence and sensitivity. And just like us, they experience fear and pain. And what could be more frightening and painful than having chemicals forced into your eyes, down your throat or rubbed on sensitive skin?

The American Anti-Vivisection Society is a leader in the fight to end animal testing. To maximize their effectiveness, they engage with a diverse group of domestic and international partners.

Through the outreach to consumers AAVS has been very successful, but a law is needed in the U.S. to ban animal testing for cosmetics and their ingredients. AAVS is uniquely positioned to influence decisive action on legislation. For over 130 years, AAVS has brought informed expertise and determination to combating animal experimentation. Through their programs and campaigns, they promote scientific alternative methods, provide sanctuary to animals from labs, present humane science teaching tools to educators, publish the most trusted cruelty-free list, and protect dogs and cats from unscrupulous dealers.

Though outreach to consumers has been very successful, a voice is needed for the Humane Cosmetics Act to urge Congress to end unnecessary animal suffering by passing this legislation.
