On behalf of the Friends of the Osterhout Library, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who helped our 42nd annual book sale exceed our expectations. Watching the thermometer creep up to a cumulative total of $500,000 was one of the week’s highlights.
In kind donations from the Westmoreland Club, Dunkin’ Donuts and Wegmans made our profits grow. A long list of friendly “guest baggers” kept our patrons smiling. Mark Krokos, kindergarten teacher, wowed the younger crowd with a spectacular bubble show.
I must give an extra special thank you to Mary Therese Biebel for extensive sale coverage with her own special flair.
We have estimated that for this year’s sale we had more than 1,200 volunteer hours. Volunteers came from all parts of the community, both as individuals and groups – Geisinger Health Plan, Wyoming Valley Drug and Alcohol Services, Holy Redeemer High School, Osterhout board members, Osterhout Mystery Book Club, Creative Benefits Inc., plus book lovers who merely wanted to help the library.
Without the phenomenal help of students from the Red Rock Job Corp, we would not have been able to set up with the thousands of books that needed to be moved under the tent.
Finally, a round of applause to the core group of Friends who work tirelessly year-round to sort the books for this enormous undertaking and give 110 percent of themselves during the set up and throughout the sale week. This year’s net profit of $26,300 is an amazing testament to their hard work.
We hope our shoppers were pleased with their selections, and we look forward to seeing them again in 2019.
President, Friends of the Osterhout Library
