I have heard a lot of arguments against the construction of Williams’ latest natural gas project in our region, the Northeast Supply Enhancement.

As an environmental inspector who has worked in the natural gas industry for some time, I am frustrated to hear arguments that this project somehow threatens the ecosystem along its path. This is simply not true.

I have personal experience working with Williams on other natural gas projects, and I respect their commitment to preserving the environment during construction and operation. They demonstrated this most recently on the Atlantic Sunrise project, as they altered the pipeline route after hearing feedback from community leaders and environmental experts. It seems like they are using this same thoughtful approach with Northeast Supply Enhancement to ensure the pipeline is the safest and most efficient operation possible.

It is also ironic to me that so many environmental activists are opposed to this project because it will ultimately help reduce our carbon footprint. Natural gas is clearly the superior alternative to coal and heavy fuel oils. And once complete, Northeast Supply Enhancement is said to provide enough natural gas to serve daily needs of over 2 million homes and businesses. This will not only lower carbon emissions, it will help American families and business owners save on energy bills. This is not to mention the job opportunities the project will create for local labor or the economic activity it will generate in our communities.

For these reasons, I hope decision makers from Pennsylvania to New Jersey stand with community members like me in support of Northeast Supply Enhancement.
