The Misericordia University men’s volleyball team split a doubleheader with fourth-ranked Stevens on Saturday afternoon Doc Mould Court.

The Cougars took the first match, 3-1 (31-29, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20), but dropped the nightcap, 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 13-15).

Brian Ross and Anthony DePalma had 13 kills each in the opener while Billy Murphy added 12 kills.

DePalma had three blocks and two aces and Matt Lavin added three blocks.

Dylan Sellitti had 50 assists and Conner Westerfield had 14 digs.

In the nightcap, Ross had 19 kills and four blocks and Murphy and Austin Cervasio added 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Cervasio had five blocks and Sellitti had 49 assists.

Wilkes loses twice to Stevens

Wilkes lost both matches to Stevens 3-0.

Colonels fell 25-9, 25-14, 25-16 in the opener. Tunkhannock grad Paul Binner led the Colonels with three blocks, while Berwick grad Zach Evans led the team with six kills.

The Mustangs took down Wilkes in the second match 25-12, 25-15, 25-10. Noah Taylor led Wilkes with nine kills.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Misericordia 57, FDU-Florham 45

Nora Tracey led Misercordia with 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Erica Haefele had seven points and led the team with six assists.

Melina Santacroce contributed eight points and five rebounds while Meaghan McCaffrey chipped in eight points and seven rebounds. Gianna Delfino collected eight rebounds and had two steals.

MEN’S LACROSSE

Misericordia 14, Eastern 11

Patrick Luzzi led Misericordia with four goals and eight ground balls and Robert Wagner added two goals, four assists and five ground balls.

Allen Thomas and Nick Torzilli both had two goals and an assist while Carson Venis, Michael Kilgallon, Kyle Vandenberg and Ryan Vandenberg all scored goals.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

York 22, Wilkes 0

Wilkes opened the season with a non-conference loss to No. 9 York College.

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Coughlin made 10 saves and collected three ground balls in her Wilkes debut. Junior midfielder Domenica Lerch won five draw controls on the afternoon.

Misericordia 23, Eastern 0

Alyssa Grieco and Michelle Torzilli scored six goals apiece to lead Misericordia.

Lauren Weitzel had five goals and an assist and Justine Johnson added two goals and five assists.

Genevieve Montanye had two goals and an assist while Alyssa Delgadillo had a goal and two assists and Molly Celesky scored one goal.

MEN’S HOCKEY

Wilkes 8, Nazareth 2

Three goals in the first and four in the third buoyed a dominating effort as the Wilkes University men’s ice hockey team defeated Nazareth College.

Wilkes got the scoring started at 1:42 of the first period when Devon Schell cashed in on a power-play opportunity with assists from Dylan Kuipers and Toon De Schepper.

The Colonels added a second goal at 14:26 of the when Donald Flynn found the back of the net with helpers from Charlie Spetz and Nick Fea.
