Devyn Sura triggered a four-run sixth inning with a two-run double as Nanticoke Area defeated Wyoming Area 5-1 Thursday in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 baseball game.

Nick Matson picked up the pitching victory, allowing one hit over five innings. Derek Cease pitched the final two innings, striking out five without allowing a hit. Ethan Egenski was 3-for-3. He, Matson and Owen Brown had an RBI each.

Jake Kelleher hit an RBI single in the third inning for Wyoming Area’s only hit and run.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Holy Redeemer 3, Delaware Valley 0

Holy Redeemer defeated host Delaware Valley 25-17, 25-20, 25-17 in a battle of the final two unbeaten WVC teams.

The Royals were led by Will Wasiakowski (6 kills, 19 assists, 2 blocks, 3 digs, 8 points, 2 aces), Matt Prociak (9 kills, 6 blocks), Matt Spiccioli (8 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig), Matt Albrecht (7 kills, 5 blocks, 2 assists, 4 digs), Dominic Alberti (5 digs, 2 assists, 8 points) and Anthony Strish (7 points, 1 assist, 4 digs).

Wilkes-Barre Area 3, Hanover Area 1

The Wolfpack took care of Hanover Area in three sets 26-24, 16-25, 25-17 and 25-18.

Joaquin Prado had 18 service points and nine aces to lead Wilkes-Barre Area and Baldwin Gerard had seven blocks.

Xavier Ankner led the Hawkeyes with 21 digs, 15 kills, five blocks and one assist.

SOFTBALL

Berwick 16, Wilkes-Barre Area 0 (3 inn.)

Berwick scored nine times in the first inning on the way to a victory in a game ended by the 15-run rule.

McKenzie Waltman homered and knocked in two runs for Berwick.

Crestwood 10, Dallas 5

Crestwood scored seven runs in the fourth inning to erase a two-run deficit and defeat Dallas.

Crestwood’s Jessica Koptcho pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts. Molly Truszkowski drove in three runs and had one of five doubles by the Comets. Allison Babula and Victoria Butler, who also doubled, had two RBI each.

Morgan Sakulich homered and had two RBI for Dallas.

BOYS TENNIS

Central Columbia 5, Berwick 0

The Bulldogs struggled with Central Columbia, as they failed to earn a point after being swept.

Jordan Baker, Bryce Hazzard and Brady Madden earned singles wins for Central Columbia and the doubles duos of Matthew Getz/Adam Long and Dominic Valentino/Luke Hottenstein won the doubles matches.

H.S. GIRLS LACROSSE

Abington Heights 9, Wilkes-Barre Area 1

Abington Heights used four goals and an assist from Caly Yankow to defeat Wilkes-Barre Area. Allison Dammer added three goals.

Olivia Collum scored the only Wolfpack goal.

Lake-Lehman 17, Hazleton Area 5

Rachel Shook compiled six points (5 goals, 1 assist) to lead Lake-Lehman over Hazleton Area. Madison Lasinski added five goals for the Black Knights and Kortney Harry made seven saves.

The Cougars were led by Riley Hudock and Kaci Kilker, who each scored two goals.

Scranton Prep 13, Dallas 5

Angelesa DeNaples scored five goals for Prep while Christina DeNaples, Annie Dempsey and Annie Johnson netted two apiece.

Ireland Walsh scored two goals for Dallas. Gabby Olsen, Abby Cooper and Kaitlyn Conrad had one each.

BOYS TRACK

Northwest 96, Montgomery 34

Northwest topped Montgomery behind a strong showing from Derek Dietz and Matt Pierontoni. The pair helped the Rangers place first in the 1,600 relay and Pierontoni was a part of the 3,200 relay team that finished first. On his own, Pierontoni placed first in the 800 run.

Dietz placed first in the 100 dash, long jump and 200 dash.

BASEBALL

MU wins 7 straight

The Cougars earned their sixth and seventh straight wins after sweeping a doubleheader against Delaware Valley, 14-1 and 9-7. They now sit in second place in the MAC Freedom.

In the opener, Sean Boylan had a two-run homer and Owen VanNewkirk had a three-run double. Dalton Emerich and Ante Salerno both added two hits as well.

Boylan drove in four runs to lead the offense in the nightcap.
