WILKES-BARRE – One of downtown’s longer running traditions returned from a COVID-19 imposed hiatus on Sunday was the Greater Wyoming Valley YMCA held its annual Bernie’s Memorial 3-Mile Run.
The run has been held annually since 1984, but was forced to switch to a virtual race last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. More than 360 runners turned out for the event.
Christopher McCabe, of Boiling Springs, was the top male finisher. The 31-year-old covered the 3-mile course that starts at the corner of Market and South River streets, winds its way through Wilkes-Barre before finishing at South Main Street and Public Square in 15 minutes.
He topped the second-place finisher, Christopher Wadas of Kingston, by 25 seconds.
Dallas’ Eryn Milius, 36, was top top female finished, turning in a time of 18:14 seconds. She was 10 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Marina Martino, also of Dallas.
Kevin White, of Berwick was the top finisher in the 3-mile walk portion of the race, finishing in 34:12. Joan Angeli, of Hudson was the top female finisher in the walk with a time of 37:25.
