Pittston Area and Wyoming Area were victorious Monday night in the opening round of the Marseco Girls Basketball Tournament at Old Forge High School.

Pittston Area defeated Wyoming Seminary 52-29. Katie Booth scored 25 points and Daniella Ranieli had 11. Amanda Fath added eight.

Booth had 14 points in the first quarter as the Patriots jumped to a 17-5 lead.

Avery Luksic had eight for Seminary. Lexi Litchenstein added seven.

Wyoming Area rolled past Old Forge 61-27. Joselyn Williams scored 15, Anna Wisnewski netted 14 and Morgan Janeski added 11 for the Warriors. Janeski scored all 11 of her points in the opening period as Wyoming Area took a 24-7 lead.

Talia Piragus scored 16 for Old Forge.

Seminary and Old Forge will play at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Wyoming Area vs. Pittston Area will be at 8 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Holy Redeemer 79, Hanover Area 52

Justice Shoats scored a game-high 29 points as Holy Redeemer defeated Hanover Area in the opening round of the McGrane Tournament at the Wyoming Valley CYC.

Redeemer will play Crestwood at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for the championship. The tournament was reduced to three teams because Lake-Lehman dropped out due to a COVID-19 situation at the school.

Matt Prociak added 18 and Zach Perta netted 12 for the Royals.

Melikah Gonzales led Hanover Area with 12. Elijah Noe had nine.
