Wyoming Valley West posted a huge fourth-quarter comeback on Friday night before visiting Hazleton Area regrouped and edged the Spartans 68-65 in overtime in a WVC Division 1 girls basketball game.

Taylor Kilker hit the go-ahead basket with 50.2 seconds left in overtime for the Cougars.

Hazleton Area led 46-33 after three quarters only to see Valley West fire back with a 21-8 advantage in the fourth to extend the game. The Cougars edged the Spartans 14-11 in overtime.

Both teams had five players finish in double figures. Brianna Kennedy led the Cougars with 18 points, followed by Lacie Kringe (15 points, six steals), Kaci Kilker (12 points) Sophia Shults (11, nine rebounds) and Taylor Kilker (10 points).

Valley West was topped by Trinity Johnson’s 18 points. Gabby Marsola, Mackenzie Perluke and Claudia Siegfried scored 11 apiece while Hayley Oliphant had 10.

Holy Redeemer 70, Nanticoke Area 61

The Trojanettes hit five threes in the first quarter to take an early lead, but the Royals answered for the road win as both teams connected on 11 3-pointers apiece.

Aubrey Curley (26) and Jillian DelBalso (21) combined for 47 points for Redeemer.

Riley Baird powered Nanticoke Area with 22 points, followed by Claire Aufiero (13) and Brooklyn Biehl (12).

Wyoming Area 61, Hanover Area 15

The Warriors scored the first 11 points of the game and also closed strong, holding the Hawkeyes to just two points in the second half.

Morgan Janeski scored 15 points and Anna Wisnewski added 11. Olivia Rome (eight rebounds) and Rosalind Tart (seven rebounds) scored seven apiece.

Ally Sheridan finished with nine points for Hanover Area.

Wyoming Seminary 45, MMI Prep 7

Margaret Ganter scored 12 points for the Blue Knights, who held the Preppers to two field goals for the game.

Bria Kringe and Emily Borchick scored for MMI.

Crestwood 48, Tunkhannock 44

Crestwood rallied with a 24-point fourth quarter to defeat Tunkhannock. The Comets trailed 28-24 entering the final eight minutes.

Grace Pasternick led Crestwood with 14 points. Cadence Hiller had 10 and Camryn Collins added nine.

Sable Stephens scored 12 and Lexi Corby had nine for Tunkhannock.

Dallas 51, Berwick 33

Dallas placed three players in double figures as it defeated host Berwick.

Victoria Spaciano scored 15 for the Mountaineers followed by Nadia Evanosky with 13 and Audrey DelGaudio with 10.

Rachel Whitenight had nine for Berwick.

Northwest 40, Sullivan County 25

Charleigh Miner hit six threes with five of them coming in the third quarter to finish with a game-high 22 points to lead the Rangers to a home win.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hanover Area 51, Berwick 45

After falling behind early, the host Hawkeyes turned in a big second quarter to take control of the game. Melikah Gonzalez scored 19 points and Mike Merth added 10 in the win.

The Bulldogs were led by 11 points by Billy Hanson and 10 from Sean Murphy.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Berwick 116, Nanticoke Area 51

Madelyn Frey set a new Berwick record in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:02.08 to power the Bulldogs’ win. Frey also took first in the 200 IM and was part of the winning 200 medley relay squad.

Hazleton Area 116, Wilkes-Barre Area 35

Ashtyn Cartwright won the 200 IM and 100 fly for the Cougars and topped 1,000 career points in the victory.

Sadie Hunsinger added victories in the 100 breast and 50 free.

BOYS SWIMMING

Nanticoke Area 86, Berwick 49

Hugo Panecatl won the 200 free and 500 free for the Trojans and also was part of two first-place relay teams for the Trojans.

Thomas Andrews led the Bulldogs with wins in the 50 free and 100 fly.

Hazleton Area 131, Wilkes-Barre Area 29

The Cougars were led by wins from Thomas Pollock in the 50 free and 100 free while Antonio Daiute won the 500 free and 200 free.

Wilkes 8, King’s 1

Nick Fea finished with four goals for the No. 8 nationally ranked Colonels in a win over the Monarchs at Toyota SportsPlex.

Jimmy O’Kane, Jay Gallagher, Tyler Barrow and Jack Lane also scored in the win as Wilkes improved to 9-1 in UCHC play.
