Mackenzie Perluke scored a game-high 20 points to help Wyoming Valley West knock off first-place Wilkes-Barre Area 51-37 Monday night in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 girls basketball.
Valley West (2-6 Div. 1, 5-10 overall) snapped a seven-game losing streak where the Spartans played the top teams in the WVC and lost four games by six points or less. Trinity Johnson added 10 points and Haylie Oliphant netted nine.
Valley West led 28-14 at halftime.
WBA (8-1 Div. 1, 14-2) was paced by Gloria Adjayi with 10.
Wyoming Seminary 45, Hanover Area 30
Wyoming Seminary jumped out early and built a 15-point halftime lead on the way to defeating Hanover Area.
Cassidy Skoranski had 14 points and Lexy Litchenstein added 13 for the Blue Knights.
Kyleen McCane paced Hanover Area with 18.
Crestwood 49, Berwick 45
Crestwood roared back from a 12-point deficit after three quarters, outscoring Berwick 22-6 in the fourth to post the win.
Crestwood’s Grace Pasternick scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the final eight minutes. Camryn Collins finished with 12, including a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth.
Gabby Starr had 14, Carly Ochs had 11 and Rae Anna Andreas scored 10 for Berwick.
Nanticoke Area 38, Wyoming Area 35
Wyoming Area outscored Nanticoke Area 11-2 in the last seven minutes of the fourth quarter, but the rally attempt fell short.
Riley Baird had 16 and Claire Aufiero added 10 for Nanticoke Area.
Anna Wisnewski scored 13 and Jocelyn Williams had 11, including nine in the fourth quarter, for Wyoming Area.
Pittston Area 58, Tunkhannock 46
Kallie Booth scored 24 points and Daniella Ranieli added 18 as Pittston Area pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Sable Stephens paced Tunkhannock with 10.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Holy Redeemer 44, Crestwood 28
After being on hiatus for over a month because of COVID-19 issues, Holy Redeemer won the McGrane Tournament with a victory over Crestwood at the Wyoming Valley CYC.
The tournament was suspended after one game was played on Dec. 27.
Justice Shoats scored 18 for Redeemer. Drew Sechleer had 10 for Crestwood.
Hanover Area 57, Lake-Lehman 46
Melikah Gonzalez scored 16 points as Hanover Area defeated Lake-Lehman in the consolation game of the McGrane Tournament at the Wyoming Valley CYC. The tournament was halted just after Christmas due to COVID-19 situations.
Jake Zola had 12 and Mike Merth added 11 for Hanover Area.
Cole Morio scored 16 for Lehman followed by Joe Shiskowski with 14 and Gavin Paraschak with 12.
Tunkhannock 75, Berwick 59
Tunkhannock took control in the second quarter behind the 3-point shooting of Dylan Mateus to defeat visiting Berwick.
Mateus knocked down three of his six 3-pointers in the second as the Tigers took a 33-21 lead at the break. He finished with 18. Ben Chilson paced Tunkhannock with 28.
Sean Murphy scored 18 and Matt Lonczynski added 13 for Berwick.
St. John Neumann 76, Northwest 43
The Rangers were able to hang with St. John Neumann for one quarter before the Williamsport school took over.
St. John Neumann outscored Northwest 45-23 in the middle quarters. Gary McLendon paced Northwest with 25 points.
