Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s talented defenseman opened the scoring. The Penguins’ former top blueliner, though, got the game-winner for Rochester.

Ethan Prow, the only defenseman in Penguins history to lead the team in scoring for a season, got the decisive socre with 14 minutes left in regulation as the Amerks edged the Penguins 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Red-hot blueliner Pierre-Olivier Joseph had given Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 1-0 lead just 1:09 into the road contest, scoring his seventh of the season and fourth in the past week, finishing off a 2-on-1 with Alex Nylander.

But the Penguins couldn’t solve Amerks goalie Aaron Dell for the final 58 minutes of the night despite outshooting Rochester 33-20.

Brett Murray tied the game up in the second period before Prow gave the Amerks the lead for good in the third.

JJ Peterka scored an empty-netter to put the game away.

Alex D’Orio started again in net for the Penguins and finished with 17 saves on 19 shots.

Sam Poulin picked up the other assist on Joseph’s early goal.
