A hard-fought doubles win from Gabe Cable and Braidon Kostick clinched a match victory for undefeated Wyoming Area over Crestwood in Wyoming Valley Conference boys tennis action.
Luca Argenio and Dylan Stoss got the match rolling the Warriors’ way with a pair of singles victories.
Scott Lenio won in singles competition for Crestwood, while the tandem of Will Savner and Aaron Kogoy won the last doubles match for the Comets.
Wyoming Seminary 5, Pittston Area 0
Wyoming Seminary didn’t drop a single game in a sweep of Pittston Area on Monday.
William Hall, Ansareli Atabayev and Yicheng Li each won in singles action for Seminary. The duo of Robert Beletsky and Pablo Casla picked up a win for the Blue Knights in doubles action, before Sem won the last point of the day via forfeit.
Dallas 5, Hazleton Area 0
Jon Florencio and Nate Linnen picked up singles victories for Dallas in a win over Hazleton Area.
The Mountaineers were aided by two forfeit victories, one in singles and one in the final doubles match of the day.
Berwick 3, MMI Prep 2
The Bulldogs took the two doubles matches to complete the comeback and defeat MMI Prep.
After the Preppers took two of the three singles matches, the Berwick doubles teams of Ben Carro and Liam Welch, and Mikey Kaleta and Ben Gizenski clinched the overall match with their wins.
Xavier Bleiler and Reed Floryshak won in singles action for MMI, while Ben Yard was the lone singles winner for Berwick.
H.S. BOYS LACROSSE
Wyoming Seminary 17, North Pocono 2
Jack Herron and Matt Swartz each scored five goals as Wyoming Seminary routed North Pocono on the road.
The pair also combined for 10 assists; Herron had seven and Swartz had three. Jack Leahy added four goals for Seminary, and Xavier Beaulac had a pair of goals.
Zack Avery and Ethan Wengel each scored for North Pocono.
Abington Heights 11, Holy Redeemer 7
Gavin Anders scored six times, and Abington Heights held off Holy Redeemer to pick up the win.
Austin Boersma and Cole Christian each scored twice for the Comets, while Stephen Cantner scored one goal and assisted on another.
Josh Wesneski had four goals and two assists to lead the Royals.
Dallas 12, Lakeland 1
The Mountaineers held Lakeland to just one early goal, and Anderson Leo scored four goals to lead Dallas to victory.
Leo also had a team-high four assists for the Mountaineers. Will Filali, LJ Long and Andrew Machulsky each scored a pair of goals in the win.
Luke Witko was the Chiefs’ lone goal-scorer. Julian Kane made 13 saves for Lakeland.
H.S. BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Holy Redeemer 3, Nanticoke Area 0
The Royals won by scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-14 to sweep away Nanticoke Area.
Holy Redeemer was led by Mike Dubaskas and Johnnathan Rocha, who each had 10 kills. Jack Wasiakowski had 29 assists, while Joshua Rocha had 17 points on 10 digs and seven kills.
Nick Hornlein had five kills and Liam Mullery had four kills and eight digs in the loss for the Trojans.
Wilkes-Barre Area 3, Crestwood 0
Three tightly-contested sets all went the way of Wilkes-Barre Area as the Wolfpack swept Crestwood.
The Wolfpack won the three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23. Jordany Rodriguez led the way with 11 kills for Wilkes-Barre, and Vincent Garrett added nine kills.
Anthony Wan had nine kills and 19 digs for Crestwood.
COLLEGES
Wilkes men’s golf wins tri-match with King’s Misericordia
Cole Jungwirth’s 80 was tied for low scorer on the day as Wilkes edged out Misericordia and King’s in a tri-match at Huntsville Golf Club.
The Colonels won the match with a team score of 342; Misericordia finished with a 346 and King’s was a shot behind at 347.
Trevor DuBoff carded an 86, and Sam Hopkins finished with an 87.
Misericordia’s Colin Bowanko tied Jungwirth’s low score at 80, while teammate Brett Herman posted an 82.
King’s was led by Tyler Faux, who shot an 84.
King’s softball sweeps Keystone in doubleheader
The Monarchs rode a big offensive outburst to victory in a 14-7 win over Keystone in the first game, then took a late lead and held on for a 4-3 win in the nightcap.
King’s had 21 hits in the first game, and scored 12 runs in the first four innings. Jessica Perrella had five hits and drove in four runs to lead the Monarchs.
In the second game, it was Perella’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning that drove in Olivia Krupski and broke a 3-3 tie with Keystone.
Courtney Grogan earned the win on the mound for King’s; she pitched four innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on six hits.
