Nanticoke’s Jaidyn Johnson reached a milestone with his 1,000th point scored, but the Trojans were outlasted by Valley West 42-36 on Friday night.

The Spartans led 38-20 through three quarters of play, and a fourth-quarter comeback from Nanticoke came up just short. Will Wojciechowski and Nathan Woods had 10 points each to lead Valley West.

Johnson was the game-high scorer despite the loss, scoring 17 points for Nanticoke.

Wilkes-Barre Area 47, West Scranton 46

A tight finish went the way of the Wolfpack, as the Wilkes-Barre Area boys basketball team recovered from a halftime deficit to beat West Scranton.

The Wolfpack trailed by six points at the half, but rallied to tie the game heading into the final quarter.

David Jannuzzi scored 17 points to lead Wilkes-Barre Area, and Melvin Egbeto added 10 points.

Chris Ogden led the way for West Scranton with 17 points.

Scranton Prep 80, Tunkhannock 35

A balanced offensive effort from the Cavaliers led to a rout of Tunkhannock.

Prep had three scorers in double figures, led by Packy Doherty with 15 points. Nigel Gnall scored 14 points, and Brycen Martin chipped in with 11.

The Tigers were led by Steven Moore, who scored 14 points in the loss.

Wallenpaupack 69, Wyoming Area 33

Three scorers cracked double-figures for Wallenpaupack in their win over Wyoming Area.

Jake Holbert and Justin Blanding each scored 19 points to lead the Buckhorns, followed closely behind by Landon Calabrese with 18 points.

Dane Schutter scored 13 of Wyoming Area’s 33 points to lead the team, knocking down a pair of three-pointers.

MMI Prep 65, Sullivan County 52

Ryan Sones led all scorers with 23 points as the Preppers advanced to the finals of the Sullivan County Tip-off Tournament.

MMI fell behind early but shut Sullivan County down in the second half to put the game away. Brendon Brobst added 18 points for the Preppers, who will play Troy on Saturday night for the tournament championship.

Delaware Valley 66, Hanover Area 54

Despite a 28-point performance from Noah Dewey, the Hawkeyes couldn’t keep up with Delaware Valley.

Dewey was one of only four Hanover players to score; Lael Hayward added 13 points, Malachi Downey had seven points and Steven Florek added six points.

Tommy Parker scored 20 points to lead the Warriors.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

SUNY New Paltz 89, Misericordia 77

The New Paltz offense proved tough to stop for Misericordia, the Cougars falling to 6-2 on the year with the loss.

New Paltz shot nearly 50% from the field and over 42% from three-point range. Rylan Blondo led the Hawks with 26 points.

Misericordia was led by Joseph Baldachino and Kevin Lazdowsky, who both scored 24 points.

LCCC 85, Harrisburg CC 65

Chris Johnson went off for 31 points, and the Trailblazers dominated the second half to pick up the win.

Franswa Roundtree added 21 points and knocked down six three-pointers for LCCC, who led by just a point at the half but outscored Harrisburg 47-28 in the second half.

LCCC will next take on Northampton Community College on Saturday afternoon.

WRESTLING

Delaware Valley 29, Wilkes 15

The Colonels were overwhelmed in the heavier weight classes in a loss to Delaware Valley.

Wilkes led the match 12-10 at one point, but the Aggies won four of the last five weight classes to capture the match.

Jack Bauer won via pinfall at 141 pounds for Wilkes. Ryan Santiago, Jaryn Hartranft and Cameron Butka each won decision victories.
