In a battle of early-season unbeatens, Molly Walsh scored 23 points to lead the Dallas girls basketball team past Lackawanna Trail 49-35 on Friday night.

Walsh knocked down three of the Mountaineers’ four three-pointers, with Elizabeth Viglone knocking down the other on her way to a 10-point game.

Mackenzie Schirg led Trail with 15 points, while Gretchen Rejrat added 10 points.

H.S. BOYS BASKETBALL

Nanticoke Area 67, Berwick 42

Jaidyn Johnson led all scorers with 24 points as the Trojans knocked off Berwick.

Liam Mullery added 16 points and Gavin Turak had 10 for Nanticoke in the win.

Kaden Hickman was Berwick’s leading scorer, with 14 points.

Holy Cross 69, Holy Redeemer 49

A big first half for the Crusaders helped them put Holy Redeemer away.

Holy Cross scored 40 points in the first half, taking a 40-24 lead into the break. Mike Hughes led the Crusaders with 21 points.

David Popson led the Royals with 12 points, while George Sabatini and Mark Atherton each added 11 points.

Northwest 57, Columbia Montour Vo-Tech 19

Josh Miner’s 21 points led Northwest in a rout of CMVT.

Jace McCoy added 10 points for the Rangers, who led 38-10 at the half.

Tyson Brown scored six points to lead Vo-Tech.

LOCAL COLLEGES

King’s, Misericordia athletes receive postseason accolades

A host of awards and designations were handed out this week, and three local athletes — two from Misericordia University and one from King’s College — were among the recipients.

Emma Sweitzer and Julia Beck, both of the Misericordia women’s soccer team, earned Scholar All-American recognition. Sweitzer was named first-team Scholar All-American, while Beck was named to the second-team. Both players earned first team Scholar All-Region IV recognition.

On the gridiron, King’s College safety Joe Carchio was named to the D3football.com All-American second team. He’s the tenth Monarch to earn this distinction, with teammate Teone Sherrof earning second-team honors a season ago.
