PLAINS TWP. — Team Ferenchick hit a 3-pointer early to take the lead for good Friday night and then kept hitting them.

Ferenchick nailed 14 3-pointers, often to cut off a run by Team Rapson, for a 76-66 victory in the George P. Moses Wyoming Valley Conference Girls Senior All-Star Classic at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.

Wyoming Valley West’s Mackenzie Perluke hit two shots from beyond the arc on the way to a game-high 22 points. She was selected as Ferenchick’s MVP.

“It was fun,” Perluke said. “We always played against each other, so to play on the same team with each other was good to end our high school career.”

Holy Redeemer’s Angelina Corridoni didn’t have any treys, but scored a team-high 16 points to be named Rapson’s MVP.

Corridoni also won the 3-point shootout at halftime, edging MMI Prep’s Bria Kringe 7-6. The preliminary rounds were held on Monday. Corridoni didn’t shoot many threes this season for the Royals.

“I like drain 3-pointers,” Corridoni said, “but I’m not ever in the spot to take them. I made some 3-pointers over this past year, but there were other 3-point shooters on my team so I was never in that spot.”

Perluke’s 3-pointer at 9:22 of the first quarter (the teams played four 10-minute quarters) gave Ferenchick a 5-2 lead.

Perluke, Kringe, Valley West’s Alissa Laudenslager and Hazleton Area’s Haley Yost also hit threes as Ferenchick took a 23-15 lead into the second quarter.

Nanticoke Area’s Claire Aufiero opened the second quarter with a drive to the basket and WBA’s Mahogany Robinson followed with two more as Rapson moved within 23-21.

Ferenchick, though, got a 3-pointer from Valley West’s Gabby Marsola and later another from Berwick’s RaeAnna Andres after Rapson moved within 28-25 with four minutes left in the second quarter.

Perluke then scored six consecutive points as Ferenchick took a 39-34 lead into halftime.

Three-pointers by Wyoming Area’s Morgan Slusser cut off another rally attempt by Rapson early in the third quarter. Consecutive 3-pointers by Berwick’s Alyssa Lewis and Marsola bumped Ferenchick’s lead to 56-45 late in the period.

Berwick’s Gabby Starr and Yost opened the fourth with two more 3-pointers as Ferenchick took a 64-51 lead.

Rapson rallied within 66-61 with two minutes left as Corridoni and high school teammate Lucie Racicky each scored four points in a 10-2 run. Ferenchick cut it off with its final 3-pointer, this one from Lake-Lehman’s Brenna Hunt.
