A matchup between two of the WVC’s top girls lacrosse teams was decided in double overtime as Crestwood outlasted Abington Heights 9-8 on Saturday, handing Abington their first loss.
Gia Caporuscio scored the game-winner for Crestwood in double OT, and had three goals total. Hannah Ziegler also had three goals, and Jackie Gallagher added two. Morgan Koons made seven saves for Crestwood.
Allison Rothenberger and Isabella DeRiggi had three goals each for Abington Heights.
Scranton Prep 15, Pittston Area 2
A balanced scoring attack kept Scranton Prep unbeaten, picking up the win over Pittston Area.
Grace Kotchick led Prep with four goals, while McKenna Toolan added three. Nine different players scored for the Classics in all.
Julia Homschek and Karinne Podwika each scored for Pittston Area. Patriots goalie Sophia Montagna made 20 saves.
BASEBALL
Hazleton Area 9, Emmaus 5
Hazleton Area used a couple big innings to defeat Emmaus in a non-conference game.
The Cougars scored four runs in the fourth to rally from two runs down and then added five in the sixth to snap a 4-4 tie.
Dominic Marino and Ryan Racho had two RBI each for Hazleton Area. Jonas Aponick had two singles and scored twice. Marino picked up the win in relief, striking out five over 2.2 innings.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Holy Redeemer 3, Abington Heights 1
The Royals rebounded from a first-set loss to sweep the next three sets and win the match. Abington Heights won the first set 25-23, and Redeemer took the next three by 25-15, 25-14 and 25-20 scores.
George Sabatini led the Royals with 17 kills. Josh Rocha added 13 kills, and Johnnathan Rocha had 10 kills and three blocks.
Mountain View 3, Tunkhannock 1
The Tigers came up short in a non-league matchup with Mountain View from the Lackawanna Conference.
Zach MacBain had eight kills for Tunkhannock in the loss. Marcus Binner had 10 assists, and Tyler Shygelski had 21 digs.

MENS VOLLEYBALL
Misericordia falls in MAC Championship match
The Cougars were swept by Stevens in the finals of the MAC conference tournament. The Ducks won the three sets 25-13, 25-17 and 25-17.
Jared Piontkowski led the Cougars with 12 kills and Jackson Fehnel added seven.
MENS LACROSSE
Susquehanna 22, Wilkes 6
The Colonels fell to Susquehanna at home, the team’s fourth loss in a row.
Dillon Kadis led Wilkes with two goals. Caleb Miller made 13 saves in his first career start in goal for Wilkes.
Arcadia University 13, Misericordia 8
Connor Bevan led the Cougars with four goals and an assist, but they couldn’t avoid a home loss to Arcadia.
Jared Pelliccione had a goal and two assists for Misericordia.
DeSales 21, King’s 13
The Monarchs scored 10 fourth-quarter goals but couldn’t do enough to topple DeSales. King’s trailed 17-3 heading into the fourth quarter.
Ben Spencer led King’s with three goals, while Brendan Dennis and Jake Cierech had two each.
WOMENS LACROSSE
Misericordia 13, Arcadia University 10
A 9-1 run across the second and third quarters helped Misericordia hold off Arcadia.
Michelle Torzilli and Rachel Shook each scored three goals. Skylar Dowling and Melanie Carbo had two goals each.
Susquehanna 17, Wilkes 4
Wilkes remained winless in the Landmark Conference with a loss on the road at Susquehanna.
Brooklyn Pedana scored two goals to lead Wilkes. Sam Mullen and Breanne Fulling had a goal apiece.
DeSales 19, King’s 3
The Monarchs were overwhelmed by DeSales, dropping their fourth straight MAC Freedom contest.
Ashley Dias did all the scoring for King’s, notching a hat trick in the loss.
BASEBALL
Misericordia sweeps doubleheader at FDU-Florham
The Cougars won the first game 9-4 and finished the sweep with a 4-2 win in the second game.
Jack Regenye had three hits in the opener and Joe Comins drove in three runs, while Brock Bollinger and Connor Maryniak had two hits. Maryniak added two hits and drove in three runs in the nightcap.
Wilkes drops two games to Catholic University
The Colonels were shut out 6-0 in the first game of the doubleheader with Catholic, and lost the nightcap by a 4-3 final score.
Wilkes led 3-2 in the second game before a pair of runs scored in the top of the seventh put Catholic ahead for good.
SOFTBALL
Extra-inning win helps Wilkes salvage doubleheader split
After dropping the first game of a doubleheader with Catholic University, Wilkes rallied to win the second game and salvage a split.
Catholic won the first game 4-0, holding the Colonels scoreless. The second game went scoreless all the way into extra innings, where a Mia Butka double and a Haylee Calaman single drove in the two Wilkes runs.
Lauren DeMarco pitched nine scoreless innings in the second game, earning the win for the Colonels.
MENS TENNIS
Wilkes 7, Elizabethtown 2
The Colonels cruised to a conference victory over Landmark Conference foe Elizabethtown, sweeping the three doubles matches and taking four of six singles matches.
Angelo Guzman, Nathanial Rathe, Sebastian Sylvester and Cole Riley each won twice for Wilkes, once in singles and once as part of doubles competition.
DeSales 9, Misericordia 0
The Cougars dropped their third straight MAC Freedom match, falling at DeSales.
Misericordia’s overall record sits at 1-9, with a Sunday match against FDU-Florham up next.
WOMENS TENNIS
Wilkes 5, Elizabethtown 4
A 4-2 showing in singles matches was key for Wilkes in a win over Elizabethtown. Tea Amerise, Cassidy Greenman, Zoe Klein and Ava Vacula all won for the Colonels in singles action.
A crucial early doubles point was won for Wilkes by the duo of Greenman and Klein.
Misericordia 9, DeSales 0
The Cougars picked up the win in emphatic fashion, sweeping DeSales.
Brianna Pizzano, Hailey Loughlin, Emily Brecker, Lydia Barbour, Erin Cridge and Isabella Aniska were all double-winners.
TRACK AND FIELD
King’s, Misericordia compete at Bison Outdoor Classic
Brandy Varner set a new King’s record in the discus as both the Monarchs and Misericordia University participated in the first day of the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell.
Varner took fifth place in the discus and set a new program best with a throw of 44.72 meters, beating her own record of 40.16 meters set just last week.
WOMENS GOLF
Wilkes takes down King’s, FDU-Florham in tri-match
Kyleen McCance shot a 79 to earn medalist honors for Wilkes as the Colonels beat King’s and FDU-Florham. Wilkes shot a team score of 357, a good distance clear of FDU-Florham’s 397 score.
King’s finished in third with a team score of 400. Mady Pendolphi was the low scorer for the Monarchs, shooting a 90.
