The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders beat the Norfolk Tides 6-5 on Sunday afternoon. Behind two home runs from Josh Breaux, the team swept the reigning International League champions in route to seven straight wins.
In the top of the second, the RailRiders took an early lead. Back-to-back walks issued to Jose Rojas and Jeter Downs to put two on. Josh Breaux smacked his first home run of the season 430-feet for a 3-0 advantage.
The Tides immediately cut into it in the bottom half. Connor Norby swatted a run-scoring single and Heston Kjerstad notched a sacrifice fly to get down by just one.
Norfolk’s Maverick Handley doubled in a run in the next frame to tie the game at three apiece.
Jordan Groshans pinch-hit in the fourth with an RBI single scoring Josh VanMeter for the lead.
SWB added a buffer thanks to another homer from Breaux, making it 6-3.
Norfolk battled back in the ninth as again a sacrifice fly brought in a run. Kyle Stowers followed with an RBI double to get the home team within one run. Anthony Misiewicz (S, 2) induced back-to-back groundouts to end the game 6-5 RailRiders.
Edgar Barclay pitched three and two thirds’ frames. He allowed three runs on five hits. Oddanier Mosqueda (W, 2-0) needed just 11 pitches to work through three quick outs. Yorlin Calderon and Duane Underwood Jr. each had scoreless outings.
