Ella McKernan scored in overtime to help the Wyoming Area field hockey team preserve District 2’s only perfect overall record with a 1-0 win in Syracuse, N.Y.

Talia Pizano assisted the goal. Rylee Muniz made four saves for the Warriors.

Wyoming Area led 9-4 in shots on goal and 8-4 in penalty corners.

GIRLS SOCCER

Wyoming Area 5, Tunkhannock 0

Ava Musinski and Alana Zdaniewicz each scored two goals in a Wyoming Area victory.

Frankie Pizano scored one goal and assisted on another, while Ella Shepulski and Emily Kostik each had an assist for the Warriors.

Piper Robinson made 13 saves for Tunkhannock.

BOYS SOCCER

Pittston Area 8, Berwick 1

William Egan had a hat trick to lead a potent Pittston Area offense to victory.

Sadiki Murindabangabo had two goals for the Patriots. Gavin Wolfe, Kyle Rowan and Jayden Rivera had a goal each.

Logan Robinson had the lone goal for Berwick.

Holy Redeemer 4, Southern Columbia 1

Holy Redeemer broke a halftime tie with three second-half goals to pull away from Southern Columbia.

Ayden Hannigan scored twice for the Royals. Joshua Rocha and Zach Schultz added a goal each; Rocha had two assists as well, and Schultz had one.

Ben Gehret had the lone goal for Southern Columbia.

Owen J. Roberts 4, Wilkes-Barre Area 0

The Wolfpack offense couldn’t get anything going in a loss to District 1 foe Owen J. Roberts. Andy Tzoanos scored twice for Owen J. Roberts.

Joe Egidio made 14 of Wilkes-Barre Area’s 17 total goalie saves.

Scranton Prep 4, Hazleton Area 1

Vincent Remedios scored twice to lead Scranton Prep past Hazleton Area. Daniel Palonis and Tyler Bianchi added a goal each for the Cavaliers.

Brian Quijandria scored the lone goal for Hazleton Area, with an assist from Yan Diaz.

GIRLS TENNIS

Holy Cross 4, Holy Redeemer 1

Holy Cross swept the three singles matches and split the doubles points to beat Holy Redeemer.

Hannah Pisarcik, Sadie Pappas and Molly Urban each won in singles for the Crusaders.

The doubles team of Maryn Cosgrove and Kim Dinh won in doubles to earn Holy Redeemer’s lone point of the match.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Tamaqua Area 3, MMI Prep 0

Set scores werre 25-13, 25-9 and 25-23 all in favor of Tamaqua Area in a sweep.

Erica Schwear had six digs and two service points in defeat for the Preppers. Georgia Washko had two kills, while Nora Herseim had a kill and three service points.

MEN’S SOCCER

Wilkes 2, Misericordia 1

Giovanni Mazzoli and Landon Kelly scored a goal each to lead Wilkes past Misericordia. Alex Lacson assisted on both of the Colonel goals.

Anthony Yarabinee scored in the first half to tally Misericordia’s only goal of the game.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Misericordia 2, Moravian 1

In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, Misericordia emerged victorious to improve to 7-0 on the year.

MK Peters and Emma Sweitzer each scored for the Cougars.

FIELD HOCKEY

Western Connecticut State 2, Wilkes 1

The Colonels’ senior day celebration was dashed by the visiting Wolves.

Regan Schoen scored the golden goal in overtime to give Western Connecticut State the win.

Allysa Pardue had the lone goal for Wilkes, scoring late in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Cortland 4, Misericordia 0

Nationally-ranked Cortland came to town and shut out Misericordia to earn the win.

Sarah Bogina made 12 saves in goal for the Cougars in the loss.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cougars sweep tri-match

The Cougars needed just the minimum six sets to pick up two wins over Marywood and Elmira.

Misericordia swept Marywood to start the day, winning with set scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-11. Cassandra Genduso led the Cougars with eight kills.

In the nightcap, Misericordia won 25-13, 25-8 and 25-18 to sweep Elmira. Genduso had 12 kills, while Maggie Duda had 28 assists.

King’s splits tri-match

After a four-set loss to Keystone College to open the day, King’s rebounded with a sweep of Medgar Evers to finish with a split.

The Monarchs lost the first set to Keystone 25-23, but tied the match with a 25-23 win in the second. The Giants won the final two sets 25-18 and 25-20 to seal the match.

Against Medgar Evers, King’s won the three sets by 25-2, 25-3 and 25-6 scores. Bryn Giordano broke a school three-set match record with 18 aces.

CROSS COUNTRY

MU wins Cougar Classic

Grace Gallagher took first place in the women’s race, and Trey Rhinehart won the men’s race to cap a big day for Misericordia at the Cougar Classic.

The Misericordia women’s team swept the top eight finishing spots in the race, while the men took the top three spots.

Both the Wilkes men’s and women’s teams finished second overall in their respective competitions. Ava Bailor finished in ninth place overall to lead the Colonel women, while Aidan Graff took fourth place to lead the Wilkes men’s team.

MEN’S GOLF

Wilkes 339, King’s 348

Cole Jungwirth earned medalist honors with a 78 as Wilkes held off crosstown rival King’s for the win. Max Cocchi added an 83 for the Colonels.

JP Gilroy had the low round of the day for King’s, firing an 82.
