The Crestwood field hockey team shook off an early deficit, scoring the final three goals of the game to beat Wyoming Valley West 3-1 on Wednesday.

Alyse Wanchisen scored two goals for Crestwood, and Ally George added one goal.

Ava Mullery scored for Wyoming Valley West, putting the Spartans up 1-0 in the first quarter. Kaylah Sewell made 10 saves for the Spartans.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Nanticoke Area 3, Wyoming Area 0

Haley Verazin had eight kills and eight service points to lead Nanticoke Area to the sweep.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-20 and 25-12 in favor of the Trojans. Amiah Ceruti had 15 assists and six kills, while Caitlyn Majiros added five kills for Nanticoke Area.

Taylor Gashi had seven kills and 10 digs for Wyoming Area.

BOYS SOCCER

Holy Redeemer 6, Hanover Area 1

Ayden Hannigan scored twice and had two assists to lead the Royals offense in a win over Hanover Area.

Max Mohutsky, Charles Schaffer, Conner Zera and Jacob Daywood each scored once for Holy Redeemer.

Chance Hall had the lone goal for Hanover Area.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Comets, Cougars go 4-0

Crestwood’s Mason Staude won the individual meet with a time 16:52 to help the Comets go 4-0 in a seven-team cluster meet.

Hazleton Area also went 4-0, and Franklin Ritz led the Cougars with a second-place time of 17:02.

Pittston Area, Wyoming Area, Wyoming Valley West and Wilkes-Barre Area each went 1-2 on the day. MMI Prep finished the meet with an 0-4 head-to-head mark.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Kozich leads Crestwood

Katie Kozich’s time of 19:58 put her ahead of the pack by 18 seconds, and helped lead the Comets to a perfect 4-0 day. Kaelyn Barker finished third to help boost Crestwood.

Hazleton Area and MMI Prep each finished 3-1; Milana Daiute finished second overall to lead Hazleton Area, while Mary Kate Kupsky was MMI Prep’s best finisher, taking seventh place.

Pittston Area finished 2-1, with Bella Dessoye and Olivea Scalese taking fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Wyoming Area, Wyoming Valley West and Wilkes-Barre Area each finished the meet with 0-3 records.

FIELD HOCKEY

Cedar Crest 2, Wilkes 0

The Colonels had a shot advantage on Cedar Crest but couldn’t capitalize, falling to 2-7 on the year.

Wilkes led 8-7 in shots and 10-7 in penalty corners. Olivia Wickel made three saves for the Colonels.
