Just two days after capturing the Wyoming Valley Conference boys basketball championship, Dallas got its run in the District 2 playoffs started with a 50-35 win over Tunkhannock in the Class 4A quarterfinals.
The Mountaineers scored 33 of their 50 points in the second half to pull away after a low-scoring first half had them up by just five points on the Tigers at halftime.
Jude Nocito led Dallas with 20 points, while Pat Flanagan added 11. The Mountaineers will take on Valley View in the semifinals on Friday after Valley View’s win over Mid Valley.
Jayden Ransom led Tunkhannock with 15 points. Bode Lukesavage added 13 for the Tigers.
Crestwood 44, Nanticoke Area 24
A strong defensive effort helped Crestwood lock down a spot in the Class 5A semifinals with a win over Nanticoke Area. The Comets held Nanticoke Area to just 12 points through the first three quarters.
Ayden Agapito had 18 points to lead Crestwood. The Comets will visit Abington Heights on Friday in the Class 5A semis.
Mathias Mitchell had nine points to lead the Trojans.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Wyoming Seminary 56, Blue Ridge 23
The Blue Knights had three players in double figures in a Class 2A quarterfinal victory.
Ella Stambaugh led all scorers with 19 points. Clare Griffin added 15 and Stella Ruiz finished with 10 for Wyoming Seminary.
Wyoming Seminary will play the winner of Lackawanna Trail and Mountain View in the Class 2A semifinals on Friday.
Lake-Lehman 51, Carbondale 20
Ella Wilson had 28 points, including her 1,500th career point, as the Black Knights rolled to the win in the Class 3A district quarterfinals.
Kinley Purdy added 13 points for Lake-Lehman, who will play the Holy Redeemer/Western Wayne winner on Friday in the semifinals.
Abigail Wall had 11 points for Carbondale.
Wilkes-Barre Area 51, Delaware Valley 48
The Wolfpack trailed by six at the half and by one heading into the final quarter, but managed to rally and put away Delaware Valley in the Class 6A quarterfinals.
Jaida Underwood had 32 points for Wilkes-Barre Area, including 11 in the fourth quarter.
Wilkes-Barre Area will play top-seeded Hazleton Area in the semifinals on Friday.
Wyoming Valley West 55, West Scranton 28
Thalia Irizarry’s 17 points led a trio of Spartans in double figures as Valley West knocked out West Scranton in the Class 6A quarterfinals.
Anya Richet added 14 points and Gabbi Novitski finished with 11 points for the Spartans.
Valley West will travel to Scranton on Friday night at 7 p.m. for a Class 6A semifinal matchup.
Northwest 51, Cowanesque Valley 35
Ashlyn Hermanofski had 21 points to lead Northwest to victory in the District 4 Class 2A quarterfinals.
Ava Ruckle added nine points for the Rangers.
