CORRECTION: The following Wyoming Valley Conference results from Saturday’s PIAA Track and Field Championships were inadvertently omitted from the report in Sunday’s Times Leader:
Finn Cronin from Lake-Lehman finished 13th of 26 in the Class 2A boys 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.03.
Jaida Underwood from Wilkes-Barre Area finished tied for 24th of 30 in the Class 3A girls high jump with 5-0.

SHIPPENSBURG – The Lake-Lehman 3200-meter relay team took advantage of facing its best competition of the season, using that push to come up with its fastest time and produce the Wyoming Valley Conference’s top boys finish Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships.
Coach John Sobocinski convinced his team that going against the state’s best competition was an opportunity as much as it was a challenge.
The Black Knights responded with a bronze-medal performance.
The team of Steven Martin, Nico Diana and twin brothers Finn and Bodhi Cronin ran a time of 8:04.30 to finish third out of 24 entries. Lake-Lehman’s performance in winning the District 2 title got it seeded into the second heat with the 12 fastest teams coming in.
The race produced all eight medal-winning teams.
“The key was simply the fact that we finally were able to have all four guys got pushed on the same day in the same meet, because we really haven’t been pushed all four guys all season,” coach Sobocinski said of the season-best time. “This was a chance for everyone. We talked about it after districts that each guy would have people to run with, more or less, instead of being in no-man’s land.”
The Black Knights led the way for the conference on the second day of the two-day meet.
Timothy Leonard from Wilkes-Barre Area, Hunter Pitcavage from Dallas and Michael Fritz from Northwest claimed the other boys medals for the WVC.
Leonard ran the 100-meter dash in 10.75 to finish sixth after coming in as the last seed for the final, based on Friday’s preliminary round qualifying time.
Pitcavage threw the javelin 182 feet to finish eighth of 28 in Class 3A.
Fritz ran the 3200 in 9:18.21 to place seventh out of 28 in Class 2A.
