Two games for Berwick. Two big nights for Ty’Meere Wilkerson. Two wins for the Dawgs.
Wilkerson topped 200 yards rushing and found the end zone three more times on Friday as the Bulldogs trounced Mid Valley 42-0 in their home opener at Crispin Field.
Wilkerson opened the scoring on a goal-line plunge and beat everyone to the edge on the right side for a 50-yard score in the first half.
In the third quarter he got his third score, this time from three yards out, before going 54 yards to set up a Gavin Galutia 8-yard touchdown.
Also scoring for the Bulldogs (2-0) was Brayden Cleaver on an 8-yard run that made it 21-0 at halftime. Conner Roberts added a 10-yard touchdown in the fourth and the defense finished off the shutout of the Spartans (0-2).
WILLIAMSPORT 28, HAZLETON AREA 7
The host Millionaires scored on the first play from scrimmage and put the Cougars away in the second half of a non-conference matchup.
Giovanni White provided the early fireworks with a 74-yard touchdown run to open the game. White added another score, this time from 15 yards out for a 14-0 lead.
Hazleton Area responded before the break as Freddy Corrado scored on a quarterback sneak on the goal line in the final minute.
But for the second straight week, White found the end zone for a third time, going in from the 1 himself midway through the third quarter to give Williamsport control at 21-7.
Brayden Ungard took a Tevin Williams pass 27 yards for another score in the fourth quarter to close things out.
A former member of the WVC, Williamsport improved to 2-0 by beating former conference foes Wyoming Valley West and Hazleton Area in the first two weeks.
The Cougars are now 0-2 after an opening-week loss to Nazareth Area.
SHAMOKIN 49, LAKE-LEHMAN 7
The host Indians turned in a near-perfect performance in the first half, scoring seven touchdowns to build an insurmountable 49-0 lead at the break.
Shamokin (2-0) came up with a turnover on the opening kickoff and never looked back, led by quarterback Logan Steele, who figured in on four of those first-half scores.
Steele ran in three touchdowns, ripping off one from 61 yards out and another that went all the way from 89. He also connected with Colin Steinhart on a well-paced fade in the corner of the end zone.
Zakem Clinton added a pair of touchdowns on the ground and Jayce Ginck ran in the other before halftime.
Coldyn Harris got the Black Knights on the board with a touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The non-conference loss dropped Lake-Lehman to 0-2 on the season.
CARBONDALE AREA 37, NANTICOKE AREA 2
Francisco Roman had two early touchdowns to power the Chargers (1-1) to a non-conference win on the road.
A 14-0 Carbondale lead ballooned to 37-0 at halftime.
