The final day of competition at the PIAA Class 2A Swimming and Diving Championships saw four more medals come home with Wyoming Valley Conference athletes.
Just like Friday’s opening session, it was the Tunkhannock boys and Dallas girls representing the league: the Tigers and Mountaineers won two medals each in their respective competitions.
Kyle Kozloski won a silver medal in the 100 Free for Tunkhannock, and then helped the Tigers take third place in the 400 Free Relay to close out the meet.
For Dallas, senior diver Megan Kuzma took third place in the Class 2A Girls Diving competition and the Dallas 400 Free Relay team ended the championships with an eighth-place finish.
Tunkhannock also finished in second place as a group in the 2A Boys team standings with 147 points; Cathedral Prep won the team championship with 198 points.
Kozloski entered Saturday’s competition with the sixth-fastest seed time in the field, but swam the fastest time of anyone in the prelims with a 46.71 mark.
The Tunkhannock sophomore trimmed down that time a bit in the finals to 46.42 seconds, but Indiana’s Josh Reed was able to hold him off and win the gold with a 46.06 time.
In the final event of the Boys meet, Kozloski joined with teammates Braydon Christopher, Aidan Mislevy and Jaden Baltrusaitis to win the bronze in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:12.09.
That time was a full two seconds faster than Tunkhannock’s preliminary time in the event.
Before the final Boys session could begin, the 2A Girls Diving competition was held with Kuzma and her Dallas teammate Brynlee Tabor vying for the medal stand.
Kuzma’s third-place finish was her best at the state championships; she took seventh place in 2024 and finished fourth last season.
Tabor finished in 15th place in her debut at the state championships, one of several Dallas freshmen to score points for the Mountaineers at the state meet.
Fellow Dallas freshmen Macie Stauffer and Locklynn Bienkowski, both medal winners on Friday, weren’t able to reach the podium on Saturday but turned in strong swims in the consolation finals to score some points for Dallas.
Stauffer finished in 15th in the 100 Free, and Bienkowski was ninth in the 500 Free to win the consolation final.
Maria-Lucia Priore finished 13th in the 100 Back to round out the Dallas point scorers.
Scranton Prep was again the strongest Lackawanna Conference school, winning three more medals on Saturday.
Lucas Iannone took fourth in the Boys 100 Back, and the duo of Eva Kaszuba and Ella Schofield took fifth and seventh place respectively in the Girls 100 Breaststroke.
It was a busy day for Kaszuba, who went and played in Scranton Prep’s Class 4A quarterfinal basketball victory in between her prelim and finals swims.
The Classics finished in fifth place in the team standings, and Dallas finished in seventh place.
The Girls team title was won by Shady Side Academy in a close race, edging out Franklin Regional 185-179.
