Wyoming Area junior Luke Kopetchny moved up one rung on the all-state basketball ladder on Thursday.
Kopetchny was selected to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Class 4A second team. He was third team all-state in 2025.
The 6-foot-2 Kopetchny was the only Wyoming Valley Conference player selected all-state. The Lackawanna League had five players received honors including Riverside sophomore Nico Antoniacci, who was selected the Class 3A Player of the Year.
Kopetchney was the Times Leader Player of the Year, a two-time Times Leader All-WVC selection and selected as the MVP of Division 2 by the coaches. He led the entire WVC with a 23.9 scoring average and Division 2 in free-throw shooting by connecting on 73.1% of his shots. He was also a prolific 3-point shooter and scored his 1,000th career point midway through the season as the Warriors won their second consecutive Division 2 title.
Kopetchny is a three-sport standout, also excelling in football and track.
Scranton Prep senior Packy Doherty joined Kopetchny on the Class 4A second team. The 6-foot-2 Doherty averaged 21.5 points and scored over 1,300 for his career. He helped the Cavaliers secure the District 2 Class 4A championship and advance to the PIAA state quarterfinals.
Antoniacci was one of two Riverside players to gain all-state honors. Brayden Rose was selected to the Class 3A third team.
A 6-2 sophomore, Antoniacci averaged 30 points, hit on 104 3-pointers and has 1,383 career points. He was an first-team all-state selection as a a freshman and has offers from Manhattan, Marquette, Penn State and Syracuse.
Rose, a 6-4 junior, averaged 20.6 points and over eight rebounds per game and reached 1,000 career points. Riverside won the District 2 Class 3A championship and advanced to the PIAA state quarterfinals in finishing 25-2.
Old Forge played for the PIAA Class 2A state title thanks to two seniors who were selected to the Class 2A first team.
Logan Fanning used his 6-6 size to dominate inside. He averaged a double-double of 16.2 points and 11 rebounds. He fell just shy of scoring 1,000 career points.
Cameron Parker was the Blue Devils’ perimeter threat. He averaged 17.6 points, scored 1,206 career points and made 145 career 3-pointers.
