The state tournament runs for both Wyoming Seminary’s Billy Hall and the duo of Stefan Zecar and Dhruv Sudhakar came to an end in the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class 2A boys tennis championships on Friday.
Hall was in action as part of the Class 2A singles tournament, while Zecar and Sudhakar were in the Class 2A doubles draw, both tournaments starting Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club.
It was a 1-1 day in both tournaments for Sem’s entrants, with Hall picking up a first-round victory over Richland’s Nilesh Singh by a 6-0, 6-1 final score.
Hall, a Sem senior who won his first District 2 championship earlier this month, was defeated in the quarterfinal round Friday evening by Quaker Valley’s Will Meagher in a 7-6, 6-4 final.
Zecar and Sudhakar also got their tournament started off in strong fashion with a 6-2, 6-4 win over the Winchester Thurston team of Ravi Stanger and Soham Maiti.
The pair ran into Cathedral Prep’s Gavin Ferretti and Charbel Moubarak in the quarterfinals and were defeated 6-1, 6-1.
The quarterfinal berths for Hall, Zecar and Sudhakar match the run that Wyoming Seminary made in last weekend’s team state tournament. The Blue Knights were felled by Cathedral Prep in the quarterfinals there, with Prep going on to win the state championship.
In the Class 3A state tournaments, Abington Heights went one-and-done in both the singles and doubles draws.
Comets freshman Prayush Mallaiah was defeated 6-4, 6-2 by Ethan Sun from Conestoga in the first round of the singles championships.
William Arp and Liam Farrell met a similar fate in the opening round of the Class 3A doubles tournament, falling 6-2, 6-0 to Frankie DeLucia and Vincent Strenge of Pennsbury.
