The PIAA released the times and sites for quarterfinal baseball games Thursday involving three Wyoming Valley Conference teams.
The times and sites for the five games involving Lackawanna League softball teams were also set.
Tickets are available at piaa.org by clicking on the link in any of the playoff brackets. Cost is $9 in advance and $10 on game day or at the gate.
All winners play in the semifinals on Monday.
• District 2 Class 6A champion Hazleton Area (19-5) will be the first WVC baseball team to take the field. The Cougars play District 1 champion Pennsbury (22-2) at 1 p.m. at Easton High School.
Hazleton Area will be making its third consecutive appearance in the quarterfinals and fifth in program history. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals in 2022 and 2024, but have never played for a state title.
Pennsbury’s last trip to the quarterfinals was in 2017 when it won the state championship.
• District 2 Class 5A champion Pittston Area (21-3) plays District 3 third seed Greencastle-Antrim at 2 p.m. at Earl Wegner Field in Fredricksburg.
The Patriots made it to the quarterfinals in 2019 where their season ended with a 12-1 loss to Red Land. Greencastle-Antrim advanced to the semifinals in 2023, which was its last state appearance prior to this season. It won the Class 2A championship in 2000.
• District 2 Class A champion MMI Prep (9-13) will be the final WVC team on the field when the Preppers play District 6 runner-up Homer Center at 4 p.m. at Bald Eagle Area High School in Bellefonte.
MMI is making its third consecutive appearance in the quarterfinals and fifth overall. The Preppers have failed to get to the semifinals the four other times.
Homer Center lost in the quarterfinals in 2025. The program reached this spot seven other times and won the Class A state title in 2005.
SOFTBALL
While the Wyoming Valley Conference failed to win a District 2 softball championship for the first time since 2011, the Lackawanna League’s success at the district level continued in the first round of states.
All five Lackawanna teams posted opening-round victories at will play Thursday.
• District 2 Class 4A champion Valley View and D2-5A champion Abington Heights will be part of a doubleheader at Patriots Park in Allentown.
Valley View (20-3) will play District 12 champion Archbishop Carroll (17-5) at 2 p.m. Abington Heights (22-1) will play District 1 champion West Chester East (22-2) at 4 p.m.
• A short distance from the doubleheader, District 2 Class 3A champion Mid Valley (20-3) will take on District 1 champion Villa Joseph Marie (11-8) at 2 p.m. at Parkland High School in Allentown.
• District 2 Class 2A champion Montrose (19-2) plays District 7 fourth seed Chartiers-Houston (19-4) at 3 p.m. at Bald Eagle Area High School.
District 2 Class A champion Holy Cross (19-3) will face District 6 champion Claysburg Kimmel (20-4) at 3 p.m. at Elm Park in Williamsport.
