Henry Arcangeli’s three-run homer was part of a five-run first inning for Mountain Top, which edged Valley West 10-6 on Sunday in the District 16 Little League 9-11 Baseball tournament.
William Gagliardi and Matthew Hummel had two hits each with Ashton Cook adding a hit and Zachary Stahlnecker driving in a run.
Valley West was topped by Jake Kramer (two RBI) and Dylan Klatka with two hits apiece. Hunter Judge drew two walks and Sofia Panzarella scored a run.

9-11 BASEBALL
GPA 19, GWA 2
Kaysen Simmons went 3-for-3 with three RBI to help Greater Pittston Area to a four-inning win.
Max Collins added two hits while Anthony Cerasaro, Madesto Matalonis and Mason Waters all doubled and Crue Ziobro tripled.
Joey Basile struck out seven for the win and he combined with Johnny Lavelle and Matalonis on a one-hitter.
Tommy Mazar had the lone hit for Greater Wyoming Area while Carson Kohler drew two of the team’s six walks.
Back Mountain 19, Wilkes-Barre 0
Back Mountain opened the tournament with nine runs in first inning and 10 in the second en route to a three-inning win.
Back Mountain racked up 14 hits and allowed none.
DISTRICT 16
MAJOR BASEBALL
Valley West 10, Northwest 0
Jason Ervin homered in the second inning and combined with Tyler Keck on a four-inning shutout. Ervin struck out three without allowing a hit in three innings.
Valley West took control with five runs on five hits in the third. Chase Swircek’s RBI single was followed by a Chris Skinner sacrifice fly, and RBI singles by Dominick Zazycki and Henry Mehalick.
Hazleton 15, Nanticoke 0
Matthew Nuñez homered and doubled as Hazleton earned a three-inning win. Matthew Garcia added an inside-the-park home run and a single, Eiki Takayoshi tripled and Adrian Zapata had two singles.
Winning pitcher Henry Garcia struck out seven in a two-hit shutout.
Nanticoke got a double from Hunter Grzymski and a single from Colin Cunningham while catcher Cole Falkowski stood out defensively.

JUNIOR BASEBALL
Kingston/Forty Fort 14, Back Mountain 1
Mason Maxwell’s two-run double helped spark a nine-run outburst in the seventh inning for Kingston/Forty Fort.
KFF got two hits apiece from Ryan Bobb (double, three RBI), Nicholas Lipinski and Jason Dailey.
Michael Varzaly doubled and drove in three runs while Bobb, Connor Degnan and Brayden Tarnalicki all had RBI singles in the seventh with Lipinski and Russell Singer adding an RBI each in the rally.
Chad Sullivan, Logan Hornak, Joe Bonomo and Sam Greblunas had the hits for Back Mountain.
DISTRICT 16
MINOR BASEBALL
Mountain Top 5, Freeland 2
Nolan Hishak finished with two hits and two RBI and Gavin Blasavage got things started for Mountain Top with a two-run single in the second inning.
Grayson Lauri got the win on the mound with Blasavage coming on in relief. Liam Krommes added an RBI and Tyler Mowery led an error-free effort on defense.
Freeland got a hit apiece from Jaxon Matisak (RBI), Martina Evancho, Jackson Davis, Jeffrey Boran and JT Colton.
Valley East 20, Hanover 1
Nico Zambotti and Bryce Bradley combined on a one-hitter, allowing only one unearned run in a three-inning win.
Bo Shafer racked up six RBI for Valley East, finishing with a triple, a single and a walk. Gio Palermo and Nico Zambotti both doubled.
DISTRICT 31
MINOR BASEBALL
Back Mountain 15, Plains 5
Jackson Ferkel struck out seven for the win and went 2-for-3 with a double at the plate in a five-inning victory.
Back Mountain also got a two-run double from Patrick Doyle and two more hits from Grayson Grega.
Junior Santarelli doubled for Plains while Reid Watlock and Maverick Kaufer had an RBI single apiece.
GWA 15, Harveys Lake 0
Logan Wolfe and Timothy Carroll combined on a three-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts between them.
Gavin Shandra (double), Aiden Felker, Franco Cavalieri, Wolfe, Greyson Speicher and Jonah Miller all had two hits at the plate.
Harveys Lake’s Liam Keogh registered five strikeouts.
GPA 22, Swoyersville 0
Greater Pittston Area earned a three-inning win, led by Connor Yonki (two runs, two RBI), Cameron Pickett (three runs, three RBI) and Jonah Ferranti (two runs, RBI) who all finished with two hits.
Colston Talerico was the winning pitcher, throwing two shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out six.
Hudson Kayrish singled for Swoyersville.
